Purpose of the National Association of Senior Move Managers
Establishing a network of services to alleviate the physical and emotional traumas of moving or “aging in place” for the elderly is one role of the National Association of Senior Move Managers. Providing awareness of the members’ services and conducting educational training for members are other purposes.
History of the National Association of Senior Move Managers
In 2002 a group of twenty-two individuals all involved in the senior move industry met to form the National Association of Senior Move Managers. A mission statement was drafted, tasks assigned and a Board formed. The next year sixty-five people from forty-eight companies involved in senior moving met to network, learn and teach at the first conference.
Services of the National Association of Senior Move Managers
The National Association of Senior Move Managers makes available services from pre-planning to post-arrival stages for seniors and their families. Some act only as a consultant and make referrals to others such as appraisers, realtors, movers, merchants. Others execute tasks from cleaning out the garage, and selling or donating unwanted items, installing hand-rails and bars, and packing or unpacking boxes. Fees vary and member companies must be consulted.

There are almost five hundred member companies of the National Association of Senior Move Managers in the United States and Canada. They all carry liability insurance.
Members’ Background
Many have social services backgrounds such as nursing, psychology, social work and gerontology while others come from accounting, marketing, and technology fields but all feel a compassion and commitment to the elderly.
