If a loved one is receiving long term care paid by Medicare there is a good chance that the government will put a lean on their assets. Upon their death, the assets will be seized for repayment. This can make things hard for loved ones. The thought of losing all ones assets upon becoming elderly and needing medical care is a very controversial one.

Simply, many look at Medicare as a government program that provides assistance. In many cases this is true. However, Medicare does require repayment. People tend to overlook this fact. That is why so many families are upset about Medicare liens and repayment upon death.
