A person has to be married to another party for 10 years of more to receive benefits. He will get his full $2500-3000 and you will receive half that or $1250-1500. Also, if he passes before you do, you get the full $2500-3000. Hope that helps...

I married a widower who had a child and we had two children of our own. I was a stay at home mother with very little work history. We divorced after 28 years of marriage. He is now remarried but I am not. If he is entitled to $2500-$3000 at retirement age, will I get half of that amount when I am of retirement age? Also does that mean he will only recieve half of the total amount as well? And is his current wife entitled to his social security benifits too. How does all this work?
