This organization looks like an amazing idea to me! I am facing a serious decision in New York City, Brooklyn: I am a future mother and must decide whether I give the child to the adoption or can keep him. I am expecting a Down Syndrome boy the end of Oct. I could not decide on abortion once i learned the news. As of yet it looks like I most likely will be a single mom. I am in contact with adoption families, but it breaks my heart. I have no family or relatives in vicinity and need to build a very strong network. Her health in general is pretty good, but she is of course developing the usual "symptoms" of getting older. Her memory is not very good...it seems to have gotten much worse just in the last few weeks. I live with her now and take care of just about everything for her. However, it is becoming overwhelming for me and i may be moving out sometime in the near future. It would be really nice for someone who could spend some time with her maybe once or twice a week...talking to her, helping her with some things, maybe take her out to lunch. She really needs something to do...she doesnt leave the apartment much but then she complains about being "stuck" in the apartment all the time lol. If anyone has information where and how i can find such a person/service please let me know. We live in Louisville Kentucky. (Note: her only income is her monthly social security...which isnt much). We provide county wide fire and medical protection to all county residents. Without volunteer firefighters individuals could loose their personal property, house and possibly be injured. Have been doing this for about 20 years and have been informed RSVP is not allowed to count this time anymore. My questionis is why? We have our own insurance, and no transportation costs.
