Is Medicare An Entitlement?

What Is Medicare?

Medicare is the government run health insurance program used by millions of seniors. It is a wildly popular program that has helped many to be able to afford their health care needs. It is really a great thing because of the amount of people that have been lifted out of poverty because of it. Medicare has helped to make sure that seniors who are bringing in little to no income have a way to pay for their medical needs.

Why Do We Have Medicare?

Medicare is an entitlement program. It is something that you are given just for being an American citizen. This is not to say that you do not have to pay for this program. Quite the contrary. You are paying for your Medicare benefits every time you have a job. Basically, if you have a job, then you are going to pay some money into the system. The money that you put into the program right now will be used by those who are currently on the program right now. When it comes time for you to be on this health insurance plan, others will be paying for the coverage that you receive.

When Can I Start Receiving Benefits?

There is not one exact answer to this question. You have to look into your personal situation to be able to know the answer. Most of the time, you are going to have to be 65 years of age to be able to receive Medicare. However, if you have certain disabilities, then you may be able to receive your Medicare benefits before the age of 65. Make sure that you look into government regulations to be able to figure this out for yourself personally. These answers can be found on a variety of government websites.

Medicare is not an entitlement. The only real entitlement is Medicaid. Politicians and journalists routinely refer to Medicare as an entitlement.
Medicare and Social Security are earned benefits. They are social insurance programs. MedicareI is not something you are “given” just b/c you are an American citizen. It is a pay as you go social insurance program.

Medicare (like Social Security) is NOT an entitlement. I worked and paid taxes for 48 years and had medicare deductions taken out. PLEASE TELL ALL the news media idiots to look at their paystubs, if they don’t believe me.
AND now I pay $105 a month to maintain it.

SOOOO, HOW IS THAT AN TITLEMENT???
