4/29/2008 President Bush Discusses National Volunteer Week
The White House hosted a cebration of National Volunteer Week on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in the East Room. President Bush delivered remarks to invited guests including, 33 Peace Corps Trainees, 64 Peace Corps Country Directors, and approximately 100 volunteers from organizations such as Camp Fire USA, Jumpstart, N Street Village, AmeriCorps NCCC, AmeriCorps Vista, Hope Worldwide, Orange County Rescue Mission, and Partners of the Americas.

4/2/2008 CEO Technology Update and Scheduled Systems Outages
I am writing today to notify you of a planned system outage for April 3 and remind you of the upcoming power outage scheduled for April 11 – 14.

3/27/2008 CEO Technology Update and Scheduled Systems Outages
I want to alert you to two scheduled systems outages, and update you on the status of the My AmeriCorps Portal fixes implemented.

3/21/2008 CEO Technology Update
I am writing today to provide a technology update and to once again thank you for your continued patience. I continue to receive daily, and in some cases hourly, updates on potential solutions to these challenges, as well as how these ongoing issues are impacting the work you do. We are working to mitigate the problems you are facing, identifying work-arounds where possible and providing information where no interim fix is available. Still, I know this process continues to be difficult.

3/12/2008 CEO Message on the Status of the GIVE Act
This afternoon, unfortunately, the House of Representatives did not pass the GIVE Act, the reauthorization package for the Corporation, when it came to a vote. Because the bill was brought up under the "suspension calendar," passage required two-thirds of the votes and it fell short – with 277 voting in favor, 140 against. Had one "No" vote been a "Yes" instead, the bill would have passed. It’s useful to keep in mind that this is really a very strong margin of support, even though it did not muster the super-majority required.

3/7/2008 Senior Corps Guide to National Conference Now Available
As springtime slowly comes to the east coast, we look forward to the arrival of warmer weather, and to seeing you this June at the 2008 Senior Corps Conference, which for the first time ever is being held in conjunction with the National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Senior Corps project directors and sponsors will have the opportunity to discuss policies related to Senior Corps, to share best practices, to explore new technologies, to connect with others, and to learn about the latest in volunteer management.

3/6/2008 CEO Statement on House Consideration of H.R. 2857
Late this afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives came very close to completing its consideration of the GIVE Act, the first reauthorization package ever to come to the House floor. Immediately before final approval, the bill snagged on a motion to recommit and the leadership moved to other issues. We are optimistic the House will complete its work on the bill shortly.

3/4/2008 Statement of Administration Policy on H.R. 2857
The Administration supports House passage of H.R. 2857, which would reauthorize the national service programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Administration appreciates that the bill includes provisions consistent with the President’s principles for reauthorization to make these programs more effective and efficient, responsive to State and local needs, and performance-oriented. In particular, H.R. 2857 would amend the national service laws to introduce competition to the RSVP program and incorporate requested technical amendments to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens on States.

3/4/2008 House to Act on Reauthorization
This week the full House of Representative is expected to consider H.R. 2857, which would reauthorize the Corporation for National and Community Service and its programs.

2/22/2008 CEO Technology Update
I am writing to give you an update on our technology systems and some related issues. After more than a week of all systems being up and stable, the President’s Day weekend saw our systems down for unrelated reasons, as Corporation headquarters offices experienced a power outage due to the failure of a transformer supplying power to our building. The building restored power on Tuesday afternoon and all network services -- including My AmeriCorps Portal, Recruitment System and eGrants -- were back up and stabilized within hours.
